Peeping out the window of our hotel room this morning, we saw it had snowed overnight. Nothing heavy, just a modest fall in the hotel car park. Sitting at breakfast in the dining room, I felt the car park snow was melting.
We walked to the post office to buy a tube to protect the poster-size family tree Ilkka gave me. On the way, more snow covered the ground than yesterday, and the Market Square floor was white. On the way back from the post office, it began lightly snowing. Soon, we found the Kauppahalli Saluhallen, and went inside. It seems to be a converted railway station, now a long and almost narrow market containing two parallel aisles with a variety of stalls on either side - meat, fish, fresh fruit and vegetables, nuts, ornaments, souvenirs, stationery, and several cafes including one inside an old train carriage. The place reminded me of the San Miguel markets in Madrid, only longer.
We left the hotel, and trudged the snow flake footpaths for a half an hour to the Turku main train station. It's supposed to be -20 degrees at this time of year, but at 2 degrees it's very warm. Opposite the station, Jean entered a snow-covered park for a look.
For lunch I've got a Bahn Mi Kanapatonki, which Google says is a Vietnamese pork roll. Jean ate something like a Lohriustassu, but I may have the spelling wrong. It was a sandwich with rye bread containing smoked salmon, egg and mayonnaise.
We are now speeding across Finland towards Helsinki.
