For the last two days, it's been birthday celebrations. Today, 9 February, is Tom's 80th birthday, the whole reason we came to Wales at this time of year. It is also Jess' 22nd birthday. So, yesterday we enjoyed an excellent Sunday roast dinner at the Marine on the Prom. There, the staff encourage you to have as much beef, ham, turkey, lamb or pork as you want, and as many roast potatoes as you wish. My kinda place. Waitresses come along soon with peas, carrots, cabbage, and serve soup if desired. Leek and potato yesterday. After dinner, there is much to choose from on the dessert table - chocolate mud cake, a chocolate mousse, apple pie, cheese cake, various cakes, and other items. You can have as much as you want, and you can smother it all in ice cream too.
Today, we dined at the Starling Cloud. Unlike Sundays at the Marine, there is an established menu. I had a fillett of salmon, Soph' had a salmon tart, and Jean had a bhuna curry. Harvey had fish fingers and chips - standard fare for Harvs. The Starling Cloud has a very good children's playground, and is nicely decked out with art and ornaments.
Just before dusk, we went again to the Prom to witness the nightly - in winter - arrival of the starlings at the Pier. The show was just as good as last night's display. Harvey thought it was OK too. About a half an hour later, we entered the Pier to enjoy the amusements for a while.
Later, at Mag and Tom's house, our friends Alison, Dylan and their son, Jac, came to say goodbye to our kids and Sam. On Wednesday, we will all head to Heathrow. Sophie, Jess, Harvey and Sam will fly to Australia. But Jean and I will fly to Finland - Helsinki.
